THE MERDEKA SPIRIT
1. 65 years on, Malaysia remains to be one of the soft spots of the world that represents a country that has been able to balance at least 3 recognized ethnicity- Malays, Chinese, and Indians. Today, Malaysia celebrates her 65th Merdeka Day celebration and it was a joyous occasion met with a sea of people with an estimated figure of 70,000 people at the Merdeka Square.
2. Throughout the years, Malaysia’s reputation for ‘Merdeka’ has not just become a good-day-out for Malaysians, but it has garnered international attention indicating national unity which is a rare sight even for a modern-day country.
3. Malaysia, being a prominent actor in Southeast Asia thrived through different styles of leadership, and for the 65th anniversary of her independence, Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri (DSIS) brought back the celebratory occasion that is the ‘Merdeka Parade’, after 2 years of celebratory absence due to the Movement Control Order.
4. Malaysians, and visitors from countries all over the world gathered at the Merdeka Square since 4AM this morning. The show of support, and adoration for the country transcends borders, race, and religion. Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah receiving the royal salute from Batalion Pertama Rejimen Askar Melayu Diraja was a sight to behold, and that set the tone for the rest of the event.
5. The happiness of being able to finally celebrate Malaysia’s Merdeka Day celebration were visible through the awe of being represented with varity- from the cute K9 troops with their little shoes, to the Sukhoi 30 fighter jets- booming through the sky.
6. The admiration for this year’s Merdeka Day was made possible through the effort that began with DSIS, but it is through the trust of delegation that these were all made possible.
7. Today’s Merdeka Day is a coming together of brilliant minds, and valiant efforts worthy of recognition in the eyes of the world.
8. Considering the support shown by foreingers at the Merdeka Square, DSIS’s effort to conjure this year’s successful Merdeka Day celebration could very well be the kickstarter as a tourist attraction given their visible admiration to today’s event.
